Why would you make your sweet chili sauce?
- because you have plenty of chilies in your garden or…
- you have read the ingredients on the sweet chili sauce bottle you bought at the supermarket
- because natural homegrown and homemade food is always best!
Okay, I got lots of chillies in my garden but I also checked the ingredients on the bottle from the store-bought one and I don’t like any of the additives like flavours, colours, and preservatives….!
Sweet Chilli Sauce Recipe – Simple and Quick
- 300-400g chillies
- 6-8 cloves garlic
- some ginger and or turmeric (optional)
- 2 cups of white vinegar
- 2 cups of sugar
- dash of salt
Combine chilli, garlic, and ginger/turmeric in a food processor.
Dissolve the sugar in vinegar on low heat, add crushed chilli mix, and simmer for about 40-50 minutes. Stir in between. You know that your sauce is ready when it starts to thicken up.
Fill in sterilised jars, close, and leave to cool. Check the lids. The middle should be sucked in, then you know that you can keep it up to one year in your pantry.
You can use the sweet chilli sauce:
- to marinate meat
- add to a mayonnaise and enjoy with chips or other snacks
- put a few drops on your sandwich to add flavor and a bit of heat
- add to your everyday meal
- add to any stir-fried food, noodles, and rice dishes
- did I forget anything? 😉
